Adolfo's Ideas

It was a hard day for me today, since it was my first day working again, but I'll keep trying and do better this year than last year.

It felt really good to be able to finish my essay and I put effort in it during the weekend. I think I did really good and I hope I get a good grade.

For my presentation, I think it would be more effective to teach them about what I know by talking to them and showing them about my topic.

 In this essay I will write about a character in brave new world that need to show his feelings differently on the outside, but on the inside he feels differently. Bernard is a character in brave new world who tries to fit in the society and be successful, but he can't because all the people start by judging him by his look and they never give him a chance to do what him want to do. First, in chapter 4 in brave new world, Bernard wanted to be like Henry foster or Benito hoover because Henry and Benito didn't have to yell a lot, for people to obeyed them. Bernard just try to be happy with all the things he has but sometimes he feel sad because he really want to be happy and not pretend to be happy in front of the society. In the society Bernard show himself happy, but is all over when he's alone because then he start to think about all the things that would actually make him happy. The ideas that I got from reading brave new world is to do what is right for you and to not care what the rest of the people think to always do what you think it is right to do.

After Helmholtz and Bernard are been exiled, john went to a little house to try to be alone and he didn't want to talked with anybody. John was in the little house in a long time and he promise himself to not keep thinking of Lenina, but each time the thought of Lenina would come through the mind of john, john didn't want to think about lenina so he began to hurt himself to forget about lenina. Everybody found out that john was in the little house because there was photographer who recorded all the things that john did and all the people came to see him to do what he did to hurt himself. John kill himself because he wanted to be alone and because he was already sad on how the people treated him and they didn't care about him.

Helmholtz and Bernard would be sent to the island but they were happy and also john was happy. John went to asked the controller if he could go to the island with Bernard and Helmholtz, but the controller said he couldn't. John said that he would go anywhere, where he could be alone. John chose the old lighthouse as his hermitage, which stood on the crest of the hill between puttenham and elstead. John first night in the hermitage was, deliberately, a sleepless one. He spent hours on his knees begging forgiveness and from time to time he stretched out his arms as though he were on the cross and he repeated, "oh forgive me! Oh, make me pure! While Bernard, Helmholtz, and john were locked in a room by the controllers, Mustapha mond came in shooks hands with all three but it was john who, he asked if he didn't like the society and john responded no.  The controller said that the book Romeo and Juliet was prohibited because the book was too old and that they don't use old things, he also said particularly when old things are beautiful, they didn't wanted the society to be attractive to old things, they wanted all the people to like the new ones. John said the new ones was horrible and stupid and he suggested why don't they make a new one like Shakespeare and one that all the children could read and understand, Helmholtz said that is the exactly writing he had tried to write but the controller said that Helmholtz will never write something similar to that because if they do make a new one it wouldn't be the same. John went to visit his mother Linda, she was in room and with the  television left running on. The nurse said that they tried to create a good atmosphere around Linda, but john wasn't interesting in that and he wanted to know if there was any hope of his mother from not dying and the nurse said there is no hope. The nurse took john to where Linda was and she smile at him but she wasn't happy. John remembered how happy he was with his mother and all the happy memories he had but suddenly John saw many identical twins and John didn't like the way the twins talked about his mother and he Grab one them and drop them and the twin started yelling and the nurse quickly came back and she warn john that he would be sent off if he does something to the children. Now john tried to get back to the happy feelings he had, but he couldn't and now all the things that came inside his mind was hateful moments and all the bad memories. Henry foster asked Lenina if she would like to go with him but she said no. Lenina didn't want to have anyone else other than john and after she took half of gramme of soma she wasn't embarrassed anymore and she went to talk with john. John told Lenina that he loves her and in the world that they were living people needed to get married before getting to lived together. Lenina wanted to kissed john and suddenly john told lenina to get out his room or else he would killed her, lenina ran to the bathroom waited a long time, then she got out and ran fast as she can and got out of the house.

Bernard organize a meeting for the people to see john on purpose and Bernard didn't asked john whether he wanted to see the people. John refused to go see the people and Bernard didn't have other choice but to tell the people that john was busy and he couldn't see them. The arch songster said " to play joke on me" "on me". The women were also mad at bernard. Lenina was thinking to herself that she should tell john that she loves him. all the people were mad at Bernard and they would often talked things about him in a loudly  voice and pretend that Bernard didn't exist. after the party was over Bernard was left alone and decided to take four tablets of soma  to forget about the things that happen and upstairs in his room john was reading Romeo and Juliet.Mustapha mond said that the purpose of life was not the maintenance of well being, but some intensification and refining of consciousness, some enlargement of knowledge. The director never went back to the fertilizing room because he was so embarrassed after what happen. Linda didn't want to see the society and also the society never wanted to see Linda. Linda returning to the world state was like returning to take holiday after holiday. Linda got what she wanted which was soma and as much as john try to convince Dr. Shaw that it wasn't right for Linda to take soma, john gave up. For the first time Bernard felt like an important guy by the way people treated him and he no longer heard about how his blood had alcohol and Bernard didn't felt judge of how he looks. In this chapter john repeated the pharase " o brave new world that has such people in it" when he saw identical twins in the fertilizing room. John refuses to take soma and he was so more attracted to his mother because each time, john go to visit his mother. The little boys and little girls were busy as everyone else although they didn't know it, they were listening unconsciously  to hypnopaedic.The director said  that the security and stability of society were in danger so he accused Bernard and said bernard betrayed the society. The director said that Bernard refused to obey and the director also said that Bernard had prove himself to be the Enemy of the society. The director proposed to the society to dismiss Bernard and that Bernard will be sent to Iceland, where bernard would  have less opportunity. The director gave a chance to Bernard if their was any reason for the director to not send Bernard to Iceland, then Bernard brought Linda and john to meet the director because john father was the director, but the director didn't want to accept it because he was to embarrassed.

In chapter 9, Lenina was tired of the problem she went through and all she did to forget about it was to swallowed six half tablet of soma. John went looking for Bernard but he didn't answer and the door was locked, then john look through the window and he saw the initial of Lenina so he entered through the window and saw Lenina  sleeping.

Bernard ask john to explain all the things he remember about the pueblo because Bernard want to know how his world is different from john's. Linda has relationship with different guys and the women in the reservation doesn't like how Linda acts because In the reservation woman are to be with only one man.Pope always bring mescal to linda which is a type of drink that people drinks. John doesn't really like pope but he doesn't find a word to describe pope. John felt alone when he was alone be reproach by many people. John decided to be crucified next to a rock like Jesus and he want to feel what Jesus felt when he was been crucified. Bernard proposed john to go with him in the world he was living. When john found out that Bernard and Lenina were not married, john laugh with pure joy he was happy that Bernard was not married to Lenina.

In chapter 8, john remember when he was a little boy and he was with his mother in a room and a man wanted to be alone with Linda, so the man took john and sent him to the other room so he could be alone with Linda. John was calling Linda but she didn't answer. John hated all the men that came to see Linda. John tried to help Linda when three women were fighting her, but john as a little boy couldn't do much to help his mother. John learn how to read but he didn't understand the meaning of it and john would often asked Linda what he didn't understand but she didn't know how answer john.

In chapter 7, Bernard and Lenina were traveling in new Mexico. In New Mexico, when two young women were giving breast to their babies it made Lenina turn away her face. In New Mexico a young man talk about how he never get the oppurtunity to be the one sacrifice because they disliked him and also the young man mentioned Jesus. The young man dad was thomas and he describe him as a bad,unkind, unnatural man and the young man was born in malpais. Linda mas the mother of the young man. Linda felt very bad being a beta and having a baby and everyone were against her. Linda being a beta and working in the fertilizing room, never learned anything else and she didn't know much about life.

I actually don't read after school because I always spend more time on other things and sometimes I feel bored and I decide to not read.
